Will Phil Mickelson be able to use his nostalgic magic to his advantage? Can Jon Rahm continue his impressive pace?

What can online bettors from the Mountain State anticipate for the 2021 US Open as the $12.5 million PGA major tournament takes place at Torrey Pines in San Diego from Thursday to Sunday?

Just about everything.

The betting board and handle at DraftKings Sportsbook West Virginia showcase contrasting narratives, reflecting varying gambling sentiments.

Rahm leads the pack with odds of +1050, followed by Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson at +1500.

Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth both have odds of +1900.

However, bettors have an alternative way to say, “show me the money.”

Last month, Mickelson, the captivating Californian from San Diego, has been generously bestowed with numerous tickets following his triumphant victory in the recent major tournament, the PGA Championship.

Mickelson, also known as “Lefty,” made history at the age of 50 by becoming the oldest golfer to ever win a major championship. His remarkable achievement has garnered an overwhelming wave of support. This week, Mickelson celebrated his 51st birthday.

Mickelson accumulated 9% of the revenue at DraftKings by midweek, placing second after Koepka who earned 10%. Following closely are Rahm and Johnson with 7% each.

According to Johnny Avello, the director of race and sportsbook operations for DraftKings, the abundance of strong contenders in the field has led to a unique distribution of betting money. Typically, the frontrunner would receive around 15%-18% of the total bets placed, but this particular field offers multiple enticing options. This is evident in the high level of betting interest in Mickelson, despite his significantly long odds of +7000 or 70-1 at DraftKings.

Avello explained that while it is usually preferred to assess recent performance and success on the course, it is not always a reliable indicator. He pointed out that a player can be in excellent form one week and emerge as the tournament winner, only to struggle and fail to qualify for the next tournament.

Mickelson, despite his significant PGA championship victory, failed to make the cut just a week later. This sudden change in circumstances occurred within a short span of five days but presented an entirely distinct reality.

Avello commented that this is one of the reasons why bettors can discover valuable options lower on the list. He advised considering individuals with odds of +2000 or higher, as they have the potential to perform admirably and also offer substantial payouts.

Rahm sets pace at William Hill WV

At William Hill Sportsbook WV, Rahm is the top favorite with odds of +1000, followed by Koepka, Johnson, and DeChambeau at +1800. Rahm’s last appearance was at the Memorial Tournament on June 5, but he had to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19. Despite his unfortunate exit, Rahm had managed to establish a six-stroke lead. However, he has since been given the green light to participate in the US Open after receiving two consecutive negative COVID-19 test results.

According to Nick Bogdanovich, the trading director for William Hill, US, Mickelson has received the highest number of tickets compared to any other player. As a result, he poses a significant financial risk for the book, amounting to a liability in the seven-figure range.

Although Mickelson’s odds of winning are incredibly high, it is important to consider the practical aspect.

Mickelson’s chances of finishing in the top 40 at BetMGM WV Sportsbook are priced at +100, which presents a fair opportunity considering the likelihood.

2021 US Open betting options

Search for numerous opportunities.

After every round, the leaderboards will be updated. Players can go head-to-head against each other and see the potential score for the next hole. The majority of holes typically result in pars.

Holes nine, 13, and 18 offer the greatest opportunities for birdies, being long par 5’s. The last hole will add excitement on the final day, as certain players may need to adopt a more aggressive approach to secure a birdie. However, the pressure could potentially result in a bogey.

The 12th hole offers a genuine opportunity to experience a challenging bogey-hole. This par 4 spans 500 yards and is frequently played against the wind.
