WV Sportsbooks Seeing Massive Bets Early In The 2020 NFL Season

WV Sports betting, what's next now that football is over?

The majority of sportsbooks acknowledge that autumn is generally the busiest time for sports betting. Although specific events attract significant interest from bettors, it appears that NFL and college football betting are consistently the most favored choices each year.

Football continues to dominate the West Virginia sportsbooks this year, despite the presence of other markets such as the NBA Finals and MLB playoffs.

It comes as no surprise that a significant portion of the betting activity in West Virginia and across the nation is happening through online platforms. Sports betting applications are witnessing a surge in wagers, including some notable high-value bets.

The top-notch online sportsbooks found in West Virginia are also provided in various other states across the United States.

Significant bets, sometimes exceeding $1 million, have been reported by each of these online options.

A few of these bets follow the usual lines such as the point spread or total, while others have been placed on player props.

Several weeks back, a daring bettor from New Jersey staked an astonishing sum of almost $800,000 on the total points scored in the clash between the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The DraftKings customer placed a bet on the alternate total of 41.5 points, choosing to go over, and the odds were -270.

Miami emerged victorious with a score of 31-13, surpassing the predicted total points and securing a triumphant outcome for the individual who placed the bet. As a result, the bettor received a substantial sum of nearly $300,000.

Although this bet did not originate from WV, the state is currently attracting a lot of focus on football markets.

During the week of September 26, West Virginia sportsbooks collectively received over $19 million in wagers, with approximately 81% of these bets being made through online platforms.

We should examine other significant NFL wagers made by residents using the best sports betting apps.

NFL betting with DraftKings sportsbook

With its impressive status as a top online sportsbook in both WV and the US, DraftKings naturally attracts substantial bets.

In addition to the excessive bet on the Dolphins game, the sportsbook accepted numerous intriguing wagers during the initial weeks of the season.

Regrettably, not all Giants fans had the same fortune as the initial wager.

A $500,000 bet was placed on the Giants by DraftKings, hoping they would cover the four-point spread against the 49ers. However, San Francisco emerged victorious with a massive 27-point lead.

A different bettor wagered $500,000 on the Giants’ quarterback surpassing the predetermined passing yards limit. However, as the total was set at 244.5 yards, Daniel Jones fell significantly short with only 179 yards.

While large wagers on game results and overall scores are not unusual, they are quite rare for proposition bets. The substantial amount of these proposition bets during the initial weeks even grabbed the interest of Johnny Avello, the director of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Avello, as reported by ESPN, stated:

“These prop bets are among the largest you’ll ever come across. We cater to a significant number of customers who not only wager on the typical sides, totals, and money lines, but also have a keen interest in prop bets. These customers often place substantial amounts of money on these bets, and we are more than happy to accommodate their preferences.”

The wild excitement persisted last weekend, with more of the same crazy action.

After successfully placing a three-team parlay bet worth $2 million, a DraftKings bettor emerged with a staggering $1 million in winnings. The parlay comprised of three moneyline favorites, with two hailing from college football and the remaining one from the NFL.

The bettor earned a seven-figure sum after Florida, Tennessee, and the Los Angeles Rams secured victories with odds of -667, -500, and -835 respectively.

In addition, the Jaguars’ game total saw another significant win. A daring bettor placed a $1.4 million wager on the alternate total of 42.5 and walked away with over $530,000 in winnings.

More online sports betting

Several other notable bets are being taken by online sportsbooks available in the Mountain State.

Recently launched in West Virginia, William Hill Sportsbook is a reputable name in the gambling industry. Their online sportsbook made a payout of approximately $7,500 for those who bet on the Colts defeating the Jets in Week 3.

Placing a $52,000 bet on the heavily favored team at -700 odds turned out to be a wise choice, as Indianapolis effortlessly triumphed with a final score of 36-7.

The BetMGM Sportsbook has also experienced a significant number of large bets. This online sportsbook is highly favored across the United States and is considered one of the top platforms available in West Virginia.

In recent weeks, BetMGM has received and accepted a few remarkable bets that stood out from the rest.

In Week 3, a single bettor wagered a total of $150,000 on the point spreads of three different games. The bets were as follows: $150,000 on the Bucs with a -8 point spread, $150,000 on the Dolphins with a +5.5 point spread, and $150,000 on the Lions with a +6.5 point spread.

Even though the Lions didn’t win against the Cardinals, the bettor was successful with the other two.

During the recent week, BetMGM encountered two separate instances where six-figure bets were placed on the Cardinals to secure a favorable outcome against the Panthers. However, both bettors faced unfortunate outcomes when the Panthers emerged victorious, resulting in losses of $330,000 and $230,000 for the respective individuals.

Last week, FanDuel Sportsbook accepted a bet of $585 on Carson Wentz to score the initial touchdown of the Sunday night game. Wentz had odds of +3600.

The bettor won over $21,000 when the Eagles’ quarterback scored an 11-yard touchdown in the first quarter, marking the first points of the game.

During a previous NFL season, a different FanDuel user emerged victorious in a comparable touchdown proposition. Rather than solely predicting a single player to score the initial touchdown, this bettor combined the prospects of five distinct players scoring at any moment during their respective games.

The $2,500 parlay earned a staggering amount of over $50,000 when Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, Alvin Kamara, Christian McCaffrey, and Todd Gurley all found the end zone.
