West Virginia, get ready because sports betting is just around the corner.
On September 1st, Penn National declared that its Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races will commence accepting bets.
On August 10th, Penn National and FanDuel, two gaming companies, became the inaugural recipients of sports betting permits in West Virginia. The West Virginia Lottery has granted these companies with interim permits, as reported by Legal Sports Report.
GeoComply was approved as a recognized geolocation service provider by lottery officials, and the licensing process took place the following day. In order to adhere to the law and regulations, it is essential for the five casinos in West Virginia to establish a partnership with a geolocation company.
Both Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island Casino were granted permits on Friday, allowing them to proceed with sports wagering in the state.
Penn National now in pole position to offer sports betting in West Virginia
Penn National, owning the largest casino in West Virginia, Hollywood Casino Charles Town, has gained a favorable advantage amongst other operators in the state to commence accepting sports bets, thanks to its recently acquired permit.
The Hollywood property in West Virginia is conveniently located near several major cities. Situated in Harper’s Ferry, it is less than an hour’s drive from Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
According to the regulations in West Virginia, Penn National is required to submit a licensing fee of $100,000 to the state. Additionally, the state will receive a ten percent share from the casino’s sports betting earnings.
According to reports, Penn National has also partnered with sports betting operator William Hill. This collaboration with the European gaming giant, which already has a significant presence in the US, has expedited the process for Hollywood’s inaugural sports bet.
Sports betting at The Greenbrier may happen soon, too
In addition, FanDuel was granted its sports betting license last week. The renowned DFS company, now venturing into the sportsbook realm, has been making arrangements to oversee the sportsbook activities at The Greenbrier Resort since June.
According to a lottery official who spoke to the Charleston Gazette-Mail, it is anticipated that two casinos will commence operations in early September, following Charles Town. While she refrained from revealing the names of the casinos, The Greenbrier’s affiliations with FanDuel and gaming supplier IGT indicate that it is likely to be one of them.
Nevertheless, the official asserted that all five casinos would have their sportsbooks operational by mid-October, rendering the competition to be the first in the state mostly irrelevant.
The Greenbrier’s sportsbook sets itself apart by being the only privately operated casino in America, allowing the resort to leverage its unique position in the casino industry.
Visits to The Casino at Greenbrier are exclusively reserved for club members and hotel guests. Emulating European casinos, the establishment maintains rigorous standards for attire and behavior.
When The Greenbrier opens its sportsbook, one undeniable fact will prevail: its patrons will engage in placing some of the most luxurious sports bets ever witnessed.
