Starting from last Monday’s drawing, Lotto America, a multistate lottery in which West Virginia takes part, has rescheduled its three-days-a-week drawing time to 10:15 p.m. ET. Significantly, this change has brought the drawing time forward, now occurring before Powerball drawings.
Lotto America has recently modified its selection process by adopting a digital draw system. This new system employs a random number generator to generate the winning numbers.
Cutoff time to buy tickets is still 9:59 p.m.
In 2017, Lotto America was introduced by the West Virginia Lottery, joining Powerball and Mega Millions as the three multistate lotteries accessible to West Virginia players. The annual sales of West Virginia Lottery tickets surpass $1 billion.
The Live Lotto America drawings are conducted in Johnstown, IA, and can be viewed on the official Lotto America website.
To participate, players choose five numbers from 1 to 52 for the red balls and one number from 1 to 10 for the blue star ball. The ticket price is $1, with the option to include the ALL-STAR multiplier for an extra dollar.
The drawings for Lotto America take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The deadline for ticket purchases remains consistent, at 9:59 p.m. on the day of the drawing. The minimum jackpot amount is $2 million and it continues to increase until a winner emerges.
There are a total of nine different ways for players to win a prize. The jackpot can be claimed by successfully matching all five red balls in any order, as well as the blue star ball.
In addition, Lotto America involves the participation of twelve more states, namely Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Tennessee.
New drawing system requires two people to operate
The traditional popcorn machine, which used to rely on a small vacuum tube to generate the winning lottery numbers, has now become outdated.
The winning numbers for Lotto America will now be generated through a digital draw system. This system utilizes a secure computer that operates independently, without any connections to external sources or the internet.
The operation and confirmation of numbers necessitates the involvement of two individuals: an independent auditor and a Lotto America official. Utilizing an algorithm, the computer generates the winning numbers in a random manner.
The jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing was $2.3 million, but unfortunately, no one won with the numbers 19, 40, 41, 48, and 49, along with the All-Star ball being 5. As a result, the jackpot will grow to an approximate $2.4 million for the upcoming Saturday’s drawing.
