In comparison to November betting, the profits of WV casinos have seen a substantial surge, reaching approximately $5.9 million at the end of the month.
The extraordinary performance also surpassed Mountain State’s previous record for revenue in a single month, with October’s earnings of approximately $6.4 million holding the previous record.
The online casinos maintained their steady performance in the last month of 2021, generating a minimum of $1.6 million per week. They have now achieved over $1 million in revenue for 13 consecutive weeks.
Online casinos in the state had a remarkable week on Dec. 18, generating nearly $2 million in revenue. It was the second-highest weekly earnings, with the only time surpassing $2 million being on Oct. 9.
In addition to surpassing revenue expectations, WV casinos also achieved a remarkable milestone by accepting over $223 million in bets in December, establishing a new record.

The state’s earnings experienced a growth of 18% in comparison to the previous month of November.
In general, there was a rise in revenue throughout the month. WV casinos managed to surpass the $1.6 million mark each week in December, a feat that was not achieved in any week of the previous month.
The Greenbrier emerged as the top performer, surpassing $3.5 million in profits. This remarkable achievement reflected substantial growth, with an impressive increase of approximately $300,000 compared to the previous month of November.
BetMGM WV and FanDuel WV, two online casinos, generated at least $800,000 every week, with their highest earnings occurring on Dec. 18 at approximately $980,000.
For eight consecutive weeks, the apps have consistently generated an impressive $700,000 in revenue.
With nearly $2.6 million in earnings, Hollywood Casino secured the second spot for the month.
The DraftKings Casino WV app witnessed a significant boost in profitability last month, generating approximately $600,000 in additional funds.
In two out of the four weeks, the revenue reached a minimum of $600,000, with approximately $750,000 earned on December 18th.
The amount bet in November has never been reached before.
Online earnings at Mountaineer Casino experienced a significant boost, with revenues from BetRivers WV and Caesars WV surpassing $885,000, representing an increase of approximately $155,000.
In the previous month, their performance showed remarkable consistency, with weekly earnings consistently surpassing $180,000. Additionally, the online casinos achieved weekly profits exceeding $200,000 in six out of the last nine weeks.
WV online casino handle, December 2021
In December, there was a significant increase in the amount wagered, with over $223 million being bet. This surge was notable compared to the previous month, as the total handle rose by 13%.
In December, the handle consistently surpassed $53 million every week, marking a significant increase from November’s performance. The continuous growth in betting reached its peak during the week of Dec. 25, surpassing $60 million.
Never before has the weekly handle reached $60 million until now.
Once again, The Greenbrier outperformed all others in this particular category. Strangely, its online identity remained nearly identical to what it was a month ago.
The bets fell just shy of $105 million, coming in approximately $65,000 below November’s figure.
In the final week, BetMGM and FanDuel achieved their highest performance, surpassing a staggering $28 million.
Hollywood and DraftKings saw a substantial decrease in the gap, with a handle exceeding $94 million. This marks an increase of approximately $23 million compared to the previous month.
DraftKings raked in a minimum of $21 million on a weekly basis, with its peak earnings surpassing $26 million.
Before the start of the month, the operator had only achieved $20 million in bets during a week on three occasions. However, during the week of Dec. 25, the operator experienced an exceptional surge in performance.
Should Hollywood ever make the decision to enter the WV market with an online casino, it is highly likely that it will immediately pose competition to The Greenbrier on all fronts.
Mountaineers also experienced an increase in handle last month, albeit not as substantial as Hollywood. Caesars and BetRivers saw their handle rise by approximately $3 million, reaching nearly $25 million.
On December 18th, the mountaineers achieved a remarkable feat by breaking a new record for their weekly handle, surpassing an impressive amount of $8 million.
As of July, the fiscal year started with WV’s handle surpassing $1.1 billion. Throughout this period, the state has generated approximately $35 million in revenue.
The popularity of online casino betting seems to be on the rise and could receive further support from additional platforms.
In November, Delaware North joined forces with WynnBet, and Wazdan, another operator, is also prepared to make its debut in WV.
